About
Susan K. Miller-Cochran
I’m an associate professor in the English Department at North Carolina State University, where I direct the First-Year Writing Program. I like to explore the intersections of language and technology in my research, and I am particularly interested in second language writing, technology and writing pedagogy, and new media.
I titled this blog “A Mediated Life” because I am becoming more and more aware of how mediated my own life has become. I rely on numerous technologies to function from day to day, and even my personal relationships have become increasingly mediated by technology. I can’t decide how I feel about that–I’ve always been a strange hybrid of techno-phobe/phile. I am fascinated by the possibilities of mediated communication/relationships/networks, but sometimes I prefer to watch from a distance. Quick to speculate, slow to adopt.
